August 15th Guild Meeting

Four Thousand French Knots, detail

Our next guild meeting is tomorrow at 10:30 via Zoom.  I have sent the link in my email. We will start with a business meeting and Show and Tell. Then at 11 we have a great program for you. Jeana Eve Klein, Fiber Art Instructor at ASU, will present a program featuring her work. She had work featured in the BRAHM exhibit last year—the large quilted piece at the entrance and several small stitched pieces. Her work is both personal and political. Her website is: jeanaeveklein.com.

July Guild Meeting

We have decided with the recent spike in COVID cases to hold this month’s meeting on Zoom. We will start at 12:30. Susan S. and I will broadcast together from her studio in Sugar Grove. We will do Show and Tell and will also discuss ikat dying and inkle weaving. I have a video on inkle weaving that I could possibly show.

June 20th Guild Meeting 2020

Spindolyn Support SpindleThe response to meet next Saturday was overwhelming to meet at Hickory Ridge at 12:30. Bring your on chair (I think there are some benches we can set up too), drinks etc. We will be practicing Social Distancing. We are going to do a program on Drop Spindling for fun. Susan S and I have a variety of different spindles we can bring for you to use or you can bring your own.  We will have them disinfected for your use. We will also have fiber available. If rain is in the forecast, we will do another Zoom call.

May 16th Guild Meeting

Artists at Edgewood Cottage in 2019We will be doing another Zoom meeting for our May 16th meeting starting at 10:30. A couple of us are going to meet at Susan Sharpe’s studio so feel free to come join us if you feel comfortable doing that. She and I will host the meeting from there like we did last month. We will mute the room once we begin and call on people one by one for show and tell. We learned during last month’s meeting that anytime a person speaks, they take over the room so we wish to avoid this this time around.
Our agenda will be similar to last month’s. We will have each member do show and tell and we will discuss upcoming business. Our show at the Jones House for June was canceled but we hope to be on their schedule in the fall plus they mentioned having an online gallery using pictures of artists work to display. We will discuss this plus our show at the Visitor Center down in Wilkes County. Susan will also be discussing a dye workshop and there’s a spinning class coming I believe as well.

April 18th Guild Meeting

I know we are all tired of not being able to get together so instead of canceling another of our meetings we will meet via Zoom for a virtual meeting. This program is very easy to use. You just need to have the software/app installed on your computer or phone/tablet. You can also call in on your phone if you can’t do this but you will of course not be able to see us but will hear us and can talk to us. Hear is the link to download Zoom:

https://zoom.us/download

The software is free to download and use but the free version only gives us 40 minutes to visit. Hopefully one of you has an account for Zoom that we can use where we don’t have a time limit. Contact me if you can host the meeting if you have an account.

I will send you a link to join the meeting in an email and it will also have a phone number where you can call in if you can’t be near a computer or device. This way all our members can join us, even the ones who are away for the winter.

We will be meeting on April 18th at 10:30 am EDT. Our agenda will be an informal get together where we show each other projects we are working on or you can show us your work spaces/studios or whatever. It will be great fun! Look for another email from me with details on joining prior to the meeting.

March Meeting Canceled 2020

I’m sure it comes as no surprise that we are canceling the March 22nd meeting. The Western Watauga Community Center is closed indefinitely at this time. We will hold our April meeting at the Western Watauga Community Center starting with a business meeting and show and tell and then we will go to Crossnore School to visit the Weaving Studio there so plan for a day of fun together.

Our February program was presented by Kerry Masarik, historical educator & new guild member. Kerry has been coming to our weaving classes at the WWCC and does finely crafted inkle weaving as well as 4-harness fabric. She shared samples of her 18th century commissioned work in traditional designs.
